Even if you don\u2019t run a bakery, the basics apply, but I apologize if you find yourself suddenly craving a piece of cake.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">*****<\/p>\n<p>Pinterest is the hot new social network, going from almost nonexistent a year ago to Hitwise\u2019s list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.experian.com\/hitwise\/online-trends-social-media.html\">top 10 list of social networks<\/a> by December to <a href=\"http:\/\/siteanalytics.compete.com\/pinterest.com\/\">21 million unique visitors in July 2012<\/a>, according to Compete.<br \/>\nPinterest allows users to visually share by posting, known as \u201cpinning,\u201d images or videos to collections called pinboards \u2013 it\u2019s sort of electronic scrapbooking. Users can upload images or pin things they find online using a \u201cPin It\u201d button or cutting and pasting the URL on Pinterest.<br \/>\nFacebook, YouTube and Twitter still draw more visitors than Pinterest \u2013 but what\u2019s been called <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.businessinsider.com\/2012-02-07\/tech\/31033021_1_site-techcrunch-reports-unique-monthly-visitors\">the fastest-growing website ever<\/a> has some obvious utility for bakers since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.repinly.com\/stats.aspx\">popular categories on Pinterest<\/a> include food and drink, weddings and events and kids.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/repinly-pinterest-categories\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1981\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Repinly Pinterest categories\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Repinly-Pinterest-categories.jpg\" width=\"642\" height=\"377\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Here are five tips for getting started using Pinterest for business:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1. Set up your account<\/strong> \u2013 Until recently, Pinterest was still in beta and you had to request an invitation to join. Now you can simply go to <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/\">Pinterest<\/a> and click the red \u201cjoin Pinterest\u201d button at the top. You will have to select five images you like before you can create an account by connecting to your Facebook or Twitter account \u2013 or in small print, electing to sign up with your email address.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/create-an-account-on-pinterest\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1986\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Create an account on Pinterest\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Create-an-account-on-Pinterest.jpg\" width=\"654\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>2. Fill in your profile<\/strong> \u2013 Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/pinterest.com\/settings\/\">settings<\/a> and fill in your details. If you want to use Pinterest for your business, use your company name, a description of your business and your specialties, and links to your website, Facebook page and Twitter account. Search for topics of interest to your customers \u2013 <\/strong>Using the search box in the upper left, you can search the captions of pinned photos for terms like <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/search\/?q=birthday+cakes\">\u201cbirthday cakes,\u201d <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/search\/?q=cupcakes\">\u201ccupcakes\u201d<\/a> or \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/search\/?q=sourdough+bread\">\u201csourdough bread.\u201d<\/a><strong> <\/strong>When you find something you like, comment on it and consider \u201crepinning\u201d it to your board \u2013 that is, add someone else\u2019s wedding cake image to your wedding cake board. Add your own content to your board \u2013 <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/about\/etiquette\/\">Pinterest etiquette<\/a> discourages being too pushy, but if you add photos of your best birthday cakes to a board about birthday cakes,<strong> <\/strong>that\u2019s useful to other users.
