According to <a href=\"http:\/\/crossroads.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/StirringUpSuccessCaseStudy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a case study by Crossroads<\/a>, StirringUpSuccess.com has been featured in top industry trade publications as a unique and helpful tool for bakery owners.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here\u2019s my third post in the series<\/a>, offering bakeries some pointers for getting started using Twitter as a marketing tool. Even if you don&#8217;t run a bakery, I hope the basics apply, but I apologize if you find yourself suddenly craving a cupcake.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nUsing Twitter for the first time can feel like hearing people speak \u00a0a foreign language \u2013 or for those old enough to remember, it&#8217;s like turning on a CB radio, where voices you don\u2019t recognize are using slang you don\u2019t understand in conversations you aren\u2019t sure how to join.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-facebook\/\">Getting started on Facebook<\/a> probably feels a little easier, because its format is closer to websites or blogs. But with a little watching and listening, you can use 140-character tweets for business communication.<br \/>\nHere are five tips for using Twitter for business:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Set up your account<\/strong> \u2013 Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/\">Twitter<\/a> and fill in your name, email and password. On the next screen you choose your user name, sometimes called your Twitter handle. If you\u2019re new to Twitter, I recommend using your personal name so you can experiment without attaching your business name to your trial and error. Because Twitter users communicate with each other by using handles, choose something short and easy to spell. JessSmith is better than Jessica_Lynn_Smith-Kluczyk, for example.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/create-a-twitter-account\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1989\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Create a Twitter account\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Create-a-Twitter-account.jpg\" width=\"490\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Add a photo and a description. \u00a0<\/strong>Your Twitter photo, also called an avatar, helps identify you with your tweets. Your photo and profile description both help create a credible presence, and demonstrate you\u2019re real, as opposed to the spambots you will encounter.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/edit-your-twitter-profile\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1987\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Edit your Twitter profile\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Edit-your-Twitter-profile.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"553\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Set up saved searches. \u00a0<\/strong>Start with the name of your business, then any related ways people might talk about your business or product, to scan Twitter for what people are already saying about you. Enter a term at the top of the page, then click the gear on the right of the results screen to get the option to save. Your saved searches will appear when you click your cursor in Twitter website\u2019s search box.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/save-a-search-on-twitter\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1983\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Save a search on Twitter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Save-a-search-on-Twitter.jpg\" width=\"545\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Follow people.\u00a0 <\/strong>The quickest way to learn is to watch others.<strong> <\/strong>Try following some of <a href=\"http:\/\/twitaholic.com\/\">Twitter\u2019s most popular accounts<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/techland.time.com\/2012\/03\/21\/the-140-best-twitter-feeds-of-2012\/#all\">some of Time magazine\u2019s best Twitter feeds<\/a>, and use <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#%21\/search\/users\/baking\">Twitter\u2019s profile search<\/a> or a directory like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twellow.com\/search\/?q=baking\">Twellow.com <\/a>to find people with your interests.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/find-people-on-twitter\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1988\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Find people on Twitter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Find-people-on-Twitter.jpg\" width=\"555\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Talk to people. \u00a0<\/strong>Twitter can initially feel like you\u2019re talking to yourself. The easiest way to make sure someone is listening is to tweet at another user. When you see an interesting tweet in your saved search or news feed, click \u201creply\u201d and Twitter will insert an @ symbol ahead of that user\u2019s handle, letting him know you\u2019re answering.\u00a0 RT means retweet, sharing someone else\u2019s tweet with your followers, and MT means modified retweet, generally because you had to shorten it to make 140 characters. Be sure to read your own @ replies so you know when someone\u2019s talking to you.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/social-media-strategy-pinterest\/interact-on-twitter\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1985\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"interact on Twitter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/interact-on-Twitter.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nIf you\u2019re stuck figuring out what to say,<em> <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stirringupsuccess.com\/creating-a-social-media-strategy\/\">start by figuring out your strategy for social media<\/a> and let that guide the kinds of tweets you post.
