(February 13, 2017 | New Orleans, LA) The Greater New Orleans Foundation is awarding $100,000 grants from its Helping Our Neighbors: Tornado Relief Fund<\/strong><\/a> to 13 nonprofit organizations providing immediate assistance to families who have suffered catastrophic losses from the tornadoes that struck on February 7th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The nonprofit organizations receiving funding are on the frontlines, providing assistance to families still suffering from the disaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely grateful to everyone\u2019s quick response to helping our neighbors impacted by the tornadoes, and we\u2019re particularly grateful for the generosity of Trombone Shorty and the Trombone Shorty Foundation for matching every donation up to $50,000,\u201d said Andy Kopplin, president & CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation.<\/p>\n

The nonprofit organizations selected are experienced in providing assistance for people with emergency needs.<\/p>\n

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for everyone\u2019s contributions to the New Orleanians impacted by the tornado last week. In our darkest hour, angels among us are coming to help us out. We can\u2019t forget that this is just the beginning. The needs are still great, and we encourage everyone to stay involved as we continue to support our neighbors in New Orleans East.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Greater New Orleans Foundation\u2019s Helping Our Neighbors: Tornado Relief Fund<\/u> <\/strong>will continue to award grants from the fund. \u201cOur track record of success in dealing with disasters from hurricanes to oil spill and floods has taught us that a different set of challenges often arise after the first wave of emergency grants. We want to be there for the long-term,\u201d said Kopplin.<\/p>\n

Nonprofit organizations receiving emergency grants are the following:<\/p>\n

American Red Cross – $12,500, to provide meals and supplies
\nCatholic Charities – $12,500, to support food and case management assistance
\nCamp Restore – $5,000, to support volunteer operations
\nGiving Hope Nola – $12,500, to distribute hot meals
\nHands on New Orleans – $10,000, to support volunteer coordination
\nHousehold of Faith Church – $5,000, to help their distribution center
\nMary Queen of Vietnam – $5,000, to help purchase supplies
\nNOLA Tree Project – $5,000, to help with debris removal
\nSecond Harvest Food Bank – $12,500, to help with food distribution
\nTeam Rubicon – $5,000, to provide supplies to Veteran volunteers
\nUnited Saints Recovery – $5,000, to coordinate efforts of hundreds of volunteers
\nVAYLA – $5,000, to provide language access to victims
