{"id":7779,"date":"2017-02-09T12:13:49","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T18:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gnof.org\/?p=7779"},"modified":"2017-02-20T09:55:05","modified_gmt":"2017-02-20T15:55:05","slug":"financial-leadership-for-board-members-bayou-june-27-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/financial-leadership-for-board-members-bayou-june-27-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial Leadership for Board Members BAYOU &#8211; June 27, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Greater New Orleans Foundation\u2019s Organizational Effectiveness (OE) Initiative is partnering with the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) and the Bayou Community Foundation to present a Financial Leadership for Board Members workshop, hosted at Fletcher Community College.<\/p>\n<p>This session is designed for board members, executive directors, and senior staff who are interested in deepening their understanding of nonprofit governance and better aligning the work of the board to heighten board engagement and maximize its impact.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are encouraged to bring their bylaws, governance handbook, and recent board meeting agendas for reference during the series.<\/p>\n<p>This session provides a framework for understanding financial leadership specifically within the context of board governance.\u00a0 We\u2019ll focus first on how to read and understand key financial statements and give you hands-on practice with using those statements to assess your organization\u2019s overall financial health.\u00a0 Then, using your real experiences, we\u2019ll discuss how to frame conversations to inform board level decision-making.<strong> \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives:<br \/>\n<\/strong>By the end of this course, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess your understanding of financial leadership and\u00a0identify areas of improvement.<\/li>\n<li>Use core nonprofit financial statements to evaluate your organization\u2019s financial health<\/li>\n<li>How to participate in financially grounded and informed governance decision-making<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The session will be held on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday, June 27th <\/strong>from\u00a0<strong>9:00am-12noon<\/strong>\u00a0at Fletcher Technical Community College-BPIPT Building, Room 206 located at 224 Weatherford Road in Schriever, LA. Tasha\u2019s nonprofit career started at 15 when she became a volunteer at Shand\u2019s Teaching Hospital in Gainesville. After High School, Tasha majored in Communication &amp; Public Relations at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida.\u00a0 During her time at UWF, Tasha spearheaded the first fundraiser for the Gulf Coast Kid\u2019s House; a shelter housing victims of domestic violence.
