{"id":7768,"date":"2017-02-09T11:48:35","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T17:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gnof.org\/?p=7768"},"modified":"2017-04-06T12:44:18","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T17:44:18","slug":"board-structures-and-practices-may-23-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/board-structures-and-practices-may-23-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Board Structures and Practices &#8211; May 23, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Greater New Orleans Foundation\u2019s Organizational Effectiveness (OE) Initiative is partnering with the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) \u00a0to present a Board Structures and Practices workshop.<\/p>\n<p>This session is designed for board members, executive directors, and senior staff who are interested in deepening their understanding of nonprofit governance and better aligning the work of the board to heighten board engagement and maximize its impact.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are encouraged to bring their bylaws, governance handbook, and recent board meeting agendas for reference during the series.<\/p>\n<p>In this workshop, we\u2019ll cover the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How to determine the right committees and task forces to support governance and organizational needs.<\/li>\n<li>How to create engaging board meeting and retreat agendas.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding that important board work happens between meetings and not just in the board room, we\u2019ll discuss strategies and tactics for sustaining engagement and ensuring momentum between formal meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand how to create the right structures to support the work of the board and the organization.<\/li>\n<li>Have identified specific changes to adopt or improve your board\u2019s committee structures.<\/li>\n<li>Have begun to redesign your board\u2019s meeting agendas and structures.<\/li>\n<li>Learn a set of promising practices to heighten board member engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The session will be held on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday, May 23rd <\/strong>from\u00a0<strong>9:00am-12noon<\/strong>\u00a0at the Center for Philanthropy (919 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130). Tasha\u2019s nonprofit career started at 15 when she became a volunteer at Shand\u2019s Teaching Hospital in Gainesville. After High School, Tasha majored in Communication &amp; Public Relations at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida.\u00a0 During her time at UWF, Tasha spearheaded the first fundraiser for the Gulf Coast Kid\u2019s House; a shelter housing victims of domestic violence. Tasha moved to Louisiana in 2013 and in recent years has served as Division Director for the March of Dimes, Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Southeastern University and currently serves as Director of Member Services for the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7728 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Kay-Irby-Headshot-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"Kay Irby Headshot\" width=\"164\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Kay-Irby-Headshot-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Kay-Irby-Headshot-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Kay-Irby-Headshot-800x640.jpg 800w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Kay-Irby-Headshot.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 164px) 100vw, 164px\" \/>Kay M. Irby, Director of LANO North, has been the face of LANO, Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, in Shreveport for the last eleven years, where she has served as Director of the association&#8217;s regional office and chief liaison to nonprofits in need of organizational development and training.\u00a0 This past summer she and her husband moved to Baton Rouge where she is continuing her work for LANO as the Director of Organizational Development.\u00a0 She has been a consultant and coach for nonprofit\u00a0boards\u00a0all over the state of Louisiana.\u00a0 Her training specialties include\u00a0Board\u00a0Governance, Succession Planning, and an array of Nonprofit Basics.
