As an executive director, when you engage in succession planning, you\u2019re thinking ahead to everything your successor and others will need to know and do to carry on the good work your organization does after you\u2019re gone. As a board member, you\u2019re thoughtfully planning to ensure that the organization is able to stand the test of time under a new leader.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bridgespan research stretching back more than a decade, succession planning remains the number one organizational concern expressed by nonprofit boards and CEOs. Despite this, BoardSource\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/leadingwithintent.org\/\"><em>Leading with Intent<\/em><\/a>\u00a0survey indicates that only 33 percent of boards nationwide have an executive succession plan, but one-half of all CEOs intend to leave the post within the next five years.<\/p>\n<p>The Greater New Orleans Foundation\u2019s\u00a0Organizational Effectiveness\u00a0Initiative with support from JP Morgan Chase is excited to announce a new workshop to help nonprofits plan for their future: <strong>Succession Planning: Preparing for the Future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Designed for board members, executive directors, and senior staff with responsibility for human resources, this workshop will examine the types of succession planning and the succession planning process. In addition, participants will learn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>staff and board roles and responsibilities for succession planning<\/li>\n<li>how to prepare for succession planning<\/li>\n<li>the steps required for succession planning<\/li>\n<li>growing and internal and external leadership pipeline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We strongly encourage organizational teams comprised of a staff and board members attend the workshop together.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 with an option to attend a morning session (9 am-12 pm) or afternoon session (1:30 pm-4:30 pm).\u00a0 The workshop is free; however, registration is required. The registration form will ask you to select either the morning or afternoon session-<a href=\"https:\/\/oeworkshops.kimbia.com\/succession372017\">click here to register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops will be held at the Greater New Orleans Foundation Center for Philanthropy in the Chevron Learning Center located at 919 St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. Seating is limited and registration is accepted on a first-come-first serve basis. Ms. Dowley-Blackman is the former Executive Director of two nationally-affiliated nonprofits and the founder and Principal of the consulting firm&#8211;<strong><em>tdb group<\/em><\/strong>.
