The winner,\u00a0 New Orleans Women\u2019s Shelter, earned a $100,000 grant.<\/p>\n<p>Located in Central City, the New Orleans Women\u2019s Shelter is one of the few shelters that accept homeless women with children and pregnant women. Since opening its doors in 2007, the New Orleans Women\u2019s Shelter has provided warm beds and nutritious meals to 700 homeless women and children. It is estimated that the number of homeless women in New Orleans has risen 66 percent since 2012.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Impact-100-Newsletter-2015-proof2.pdf\">Learn more<\/a>\u00a0about how the New Orleans Women\u2019s Shelter has used the Impact 100 award.<\/p>\n<h2>Impact 100 2014 Events<\/h2>\n<h3>Kick-off Breakfast<\/h3>\n<p>The kick-off breakfast was held at the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine at the ReFresh Project.\u00a0During the breakfast, the members heard from speakers Abigail Disney and Donna Hall and learned the slate of nonprofits in each of the five categories.<\/p>\n<p>Abigail E. Disney\u00a0is a filmmaker, philanthropist, and activist based in New York City. Her first documentary,\u00a0Pray the Devil Back to Hell,\u00a0won best documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival. She is founder and president of the Daphne Foundation and serves on the board of The Roy Disney Family Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Donna P. Hall\u00a0is president and CEO of the San Francisco-based Women Donors Network, a group of 200 women from around the country who individually and collectively grant more than $160 million a year on issues of social and environmental justice.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/110587846?byline=0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Meet the Nonprofit Leaders<\/h3>\n<p>The Impact 100 members gathered at the Patrick F. Taylor Library at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to listen to presentations from the three nonprofits within the winning category \u2013 health and social services. The three nonprofits were: Eden House, National Alliance on Mental Illness \u2013 New Orleans, and New Orleans Women\u2019s Shelter.
