Designed in partnership with\u00a0<u>CompassPoint Nonprofit Services<\/u>\u00a0and funded by a grant from the\u00a0<u>Kresge Foundation<\/u>, Emerging Leaders is a leadership training program providing mid-level managers in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Kresge-def-for-human-service-orgs.pdf\">human services<\/a>\u00a0nonprofit organizations with the management and financial skills they need to move to the next level of leadership.<\/p>\n<p>A nationally recognized leader in guiding nonprofits to become better managed, more adaptive, and achieve higher impact, CompassPoint has had great success in the delivery of its cohort leadership programs, unique in that they each combine transformative leadership development with essential management skills-building. With support from the Kresge Foundation, we hope to foster next-generation leadership in the human service sector and prepare them to be strong leaders.<\/p>\n<p><em>Emerging Leaders<\/em>\u00a0focuses on two of the critical content areas that pose significant challenges for many community-based organizations and leaders. The first challenge is to supervise, develop, inspire, and influence people. The second challenge is to develop business acumen with an emphasis on financial strategy, comprehension, and literacy.<\/p>\n<p>Using a multicultural framework rooted in racial and social justice that examines cultural dimensions in managing people and organizational finances, this initiative focuses on\u00a0these two areas: deepening the management and leadership capabilities of individual participants and increasing the overall health and sustainability of their current and future organizations of employment.<\/p>\n<p><em>Emerging Leaders<\/em>\u00a0has graduated over thirty five professionals\u00a0working in the human services sector. \u201cEmerging Leaders allows you to discuss and connect with other professionals in similar fields and organizations,\u201d said Sean Tate,\u00a0participant in\u00a0<em>Emerging Leaders\u00a0<\/em>2014 and now Executive Director of DiscoveryFEST Enrichment Program. Before applying, please confirm you are available to attend all seminar dates and you are supported by your Executive Director and Board of Directors to do so.<\/p>\n<p>A cohort of up to 25 people from various ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds in southeast Louisiana\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Kresge-def-for-human-service-orgs.pdf\">human service organizations<\/a>\u00a0will enroll in an intensive program with the following components:<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Pre-Program<br \/>\n<\/u><\/em>Participants will take the Strengths Finder assessment as pre-work. Individual assessment results will be used in the seminar.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Kick-Off: Three Day In-Person Seminar<br \/>\n<\/u><\/em>This three\u00a0day, in-person kick-off session will uncover your personal leadership values and guiding principles, as well as core ideas and beliefs in a multicultural framework of race and social justice. We\u2019ll explore strengths; personal purpose; setting context within leadership domains; cultural difference, power, and privilege frameworks. You will deepen your awareness and practice of supervising and managing people in a multicultural setting and identify ways to advance your leadership.<\/p>\n<p>A sustainable learning community will be formed by building relationships among cohort members, allowing for the exchange of diverse experiences and expertise.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>2<sup>nd<\/sup> Gathering: Two Day In-Person Seminar<\/u><\/em><br \/>\nParticipants will strengthen their people management skills and be introduced to financial leadership. Using a multicultural leadership lens, participants will learn how to step into a financial leadership role, and what that entails organizationally and individually.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Touchbases<\/u><\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em>Two mandatory gatherings will be hosted to encourage and support ongoing networking and continued relationship building.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Final Cohort Gathering: Two Day In-Person Seminar<\/u><\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em>To encourage and support a network of next generation leaders, the last session\u00a0will be an in-person celebration of accomplishments and an opportunity to deepen the new relationships and acknowledge this leadership journey.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Emerging Leaders Presenters<br \/>\n<\/u><\/em>CompassPoint staff will lead each<em>\u00a0Emerging Leaders<\/em>\u00a0seminar and will be announced in advance of the session.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7220\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7220\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7220 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/groupphoto-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Emerging Leaders 2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/groupphoto-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/groupphoto-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/groupphoto-966x543.jpg 966w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7220\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Emerging Leaders 2014 cohort<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This program is designed for people from a variety of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds who are currently in mid-level nonprofit management positions, have at least 2 years experience managing people and budgets, have never been an executive director, work in a human service organization within the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/about-us\/\">Greater New Orleans Foundations&#8217; 13-parish region<\/a>, and have a commitment to social change.\u00a0 Participants can be of any age, but would need to have a demonstrated commitment to a career in the nonprofit sector and an aspiration towards professional advancement.<\/p>\n<p>Each applicant needs to meet the following program requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is a mid-level manager (as defined by your organization)<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for managing a budget and people (could be volunteers)<\/li>\n<li>Has at least 2 years nonprofit management experience<\/li>\n<li>Has never been an executive director<\/li>\n<li>Eager\u00a0to be in a cohort experience learning with and from their peers<\/li>\n<li>Anticipates remaining with current organization for the next year*<\/li>\n<li>Is enthusiastic to develop an organizationally-focused action plan based on program learnings and commit to implement the plan over the course of the 8-month period<\/li>\n<li>Is working in a human service organization in the Greater New Orleans Foundation&#8217;s 13-parish region<\/li>\n<li>Has support and approval from the organization&#8217;s executive director and his\/her supervisor to support implementation of their action plan<\/li>\n<li>Has the written approval and support of the organization\u2019s executive director and support of board of directors to\u00a0fully participate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*<em>If a participant unexpectedly leaves her\/his organization during the program or is no longer able to meet the program requirements, the Greater New Orleans Foundation and CompassPoint will work with the individual and\/or organization to determine if continued participation is appropriate.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><u>Number of Applicants per Organization<\/u><\/em><u><br \/>\n<\/u>Only one application per organization will be considered for the program. If the Greater New Orleans Foundation and CompassPoint receive more than one application from an organization, we will ask the organization to decide which application to submit.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Program Costs<\/u><\/em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>This program is supported in part by a grant from The Kresge Foundation. \u00a0If selected, each participant\u2019s organization must pay a nominal participation fee.\u00a0 Fees are on a sliding scale based on organization\u2019s budget size. This fee will be due upon acceptance into the program to secure that participant\u2019s spot. The total value of this program is approximately $6,000 per person.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<u>Sliding scale is as follows<\/u><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$500 for organizations with budget size of under $1 million<\/li>\n<li>$750 for organizations with budget size between $1 and 3 million<\/li>\n<li>$1,000 for organizations with budget size over $3 million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Should another organizational representative have attended a previous session of Emerging Leaders or another GNOF hosted leadership cohort (Executive Director Intensive and Executive Director Fundamentals), your organization is eligible for a 15% discount on the Emerging Leaders fee. Please contact Rachel Swan (rachel@gnof.org) for additional information <strong>BEFORE<\/strong> completing your application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Acceptance Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because space is limited, the application process is competitive.
