52 nonprofit organizations win highly competitive IMPACT grants <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

(New Orleans, LA | November 10, 2015) \u2013 The Greater New Orleans Foundation announced today the 52 nonprofit organizations that received 2015 IMPACT grants in the following categories: arts and culture; education; health; social services; and, youth development. Now in its seventh year, the IMPACT program is the Foundation\u2019s largest discretionary and most competitive grantmaking program. It awards grants to organizations that serve mostly low-income communities. This year the Foundation awarded a total of $1,020,000 to 52 nonprofit organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IMPACT grants are made possible thanks to the generous support of our donors, and we are humbled to be their partner in philanthropy,\u201d Albert Ruesga, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation. \u201cWe are honored to recognize and support these nonprofit organizations addressing our community\u2019s most pressing needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IMPACT grant will help us continue engaging and empowering young leaders through running,\u201d said Denali Lander, executive director of Youth Run NOLA, a first-time IMPACT grantee. \u201cThese funds are critical as we work to support 2,000 youth across the finish line of the upcoming 504K in February 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the national film industry growing in the region, NOVAC supports local and indigenous storytellers, training and developing film workers, independent filmmakers and community voices, while cultivating a pipeline of young creative professionals for New Orleans’ next generation,” said Darcy McKinnon, executive director of New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC), which is receiving an IMPACT grant for the fourth consecutive year. \u201cWe are honored to receive this IMPACT grant that will support our continued work in this field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over 130 applications were received and the rigorous review process included a site visit by Foundation staff, a careful study of the organization\u2019s financial information, and a review by the Foundation\u2019s grants committee. In addition to financial support, IMPACT grantees are also supported throughout the year with networking opportunities, communications assistance, and trainings and workshops on nonprofit best practices.<\/p>\n

Since its inception in 2009, the IMPACT Program has granted more than $6 million to more than 150 nonprofit organizations in the Greater New Orleans region.<\/p>\n
