Staff and board leaders with more than 3 years of experience in governance are also eligible* <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Greater New Orleans Foundation Organizational Effectiveness Initiative (OE) and the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools are partnering on a series of Board Governance workshops in New Orleans and the Bayou region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Governance as Leadership: Positioning Your Board for Strategic and Generative Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 8:30 am &#8211; 12 pm<\/p>\n<p>Greater New Orleans Foundation<\/p>\n<p>1055 St. Charles Ave. Suite 120, New Orleans, LA<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fees: The registration fee is per organization for up to three people. Registration is required-see below. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>$20 for recent (2013 or 2014) GNOF grantees and current LAPCS members<\/p>\n<p>$25 for non-grantees<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prerequisite: <\/strong>In order to participate in this workshop, you must have participated in one of the foundation\u2019s Board Governance 101 workshops.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a time of profound change. Faced with shrinking budgets, rapidly evolving community needs, a hostile political climate, and ever more intense public scrutiny, nonprofits are finding it\u2019s not enough to simply update a mission statement or patch over a list of outdated goals in order to remain relevant. In order to meet the challenges of building long-term financial sustainability, weighing strategic restructuring options, planning for leadership succession, and more, boards need to think and act differently.<\/p>\n<p>Some boards are already making the transition by applying the lessons of the book, <em>Governance as Leadership<\/em>. This leadership model challenges boards to engage in three modes of thinking and decision-making: fiduciary, strategic and generative. While all three are important, generative thinking is often the most difficult \u2013 but also critical to navigating the future successfully. Generative mode thinking can lay the groundwork for leaders to develop breakthrough strategies, assuring increased mission impact and sustainable growth for the future. This workshop will provide a practical introduction to generative thinking and offer concrete ways to apply this governance mode in your board. Participants will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gain knowledge of the <em>Governance As Leadership<\/em> framework with emphasis on generative mode thinking<\/li>\n<li>Leave with a toolkit of activities, methods, and practices for incorporating generative thinking into the ongoing work of your board<\/li>\n<li>Grasp the implications of strategic and generative thinking for the design and conduct of future board and committee meetings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Registration for this workshop is required:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/oeworkshops.kimbia.com\/govleadership\">click here to register<\/a><strong>.<\/strong> Payment is required at the time of registration. He is president of the Center for Public Skills Training where he specializes in strategic planning, governing board development, and community partnership and alliance building. Since 1980 over 35,000 professional staff, board and other volunteer leaders have benefited from Frank&#8217;s practical, results-oriented training and consultation.
