The Greater New Orleans Foundation, host of New Orleans\u2019 first online giving day, is pleased to announce the nonprofit organizations both large and small, that earned additional award and prize money on GiveNOLA Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The three organizations that raised the most money and received the largest number of gifts were awarded an additional $10,000, $5,000, $3,000, respectively, thanks to GiveNOLA Day corporate sponsor Boh Brothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Additionally, 24 nonprofit organizations were randomly chosen as \u201cRock Around the Clock\u201d winners, with each being awarded a $1,000 prize. The winners, listed in alphabetical order, were: AfricaNola; Bunny Friend Neighborhood Association; Cafe Reconcile; Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans; Committee for a Better New Orleans; Community Visions Unlimited; Dream City Foundation; Friends of City Park; Gulf States Dive and Rescue; Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana; KIDsmART; Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners; Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development; NAMI New Orleans; New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity; Our Lady of Holy Cross College; Ozanam Inn; Partnership for Youth Development; Ride New Orleans; St. Michael Special School; The New Orleans Fruit Tree Project; The Roots of Music; University of New Orleans Foundation; and Xavier University of Louisiana.<\/p>\n

While reconciliation is still ongoing for the next few weeks, the 24-hour giving day resulted in over 19,000 gifts for an astonishing $2,256,151 raised for the 309 participating nonprofit organizations. The vast majority of all gifts were for $100 or less; in fact, one third of all donations were for $10. Donations were received from 48 states, plus Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

The category that received the largest gift total was human services ($490,688), followed closely by education ($485,727), and community improvement ($236,416). The top giving hours were between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we enjoyed most about participating in GiveNOLA Day was the number of new donors who gave to us for the very first time,\u201d said Lelia Gowland, director of communications and development of Juvenile Justice Project of New Orleans. \u201cEighty percent of our contributors were new to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
