{"id":12533,"date":"2020-12-18T10:05:33","date_gmt":"2020-12-18T16:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gnof.org\/?p=12533"},"modified":"2021-02-12T12:11:30","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T18:11:30","slug":"gi-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/gi-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"The Green Infrastructure Challenge In Partnership with Water Wise Gulf South and Every Drop Makes a Difference"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12534\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/GI-Challenge_Promo-Image.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/GI-Challenge_Promo-Image.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/GI-Challenge_Promo-Image-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/GI-Challenge_Promo-Image-676x676.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"null\">The Challenge<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Organize your neighbors (a minimum of 3) to apply for green infrastructure interventions on your block or your neighborhood!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"null\">Mechanics<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">A budget of $5,000 will be allocated to 7 teams to install the following types of green infrastructure to help manage stormwater where it falls!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Rain barrel builds and installations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Tree plantings in the public right of way (between the sidewalk and the street or curb)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Rain gardens<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Bioswales<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">French drains<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Stormwater planter boxes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Concrete removal if needed to install the above installation types<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two project types will be allowed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Project type A<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; More intensive green infrastructure interventions such as rain gardens, french drains, bioswales, etc. can take place within one block of each other.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Project type B\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Less Intensive green infrastructure interventions such as tree plantings and rain barrel installations can take place within a 5 block radius.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"null\">Application Criteria<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The team must be composed of residents of Orleans Parish.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Must demonstrate flooding on your block or property (photo or written evidence is allowed)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The team must live in or represent a census tract that has concentrated\u00a0poverty\u00a0of 14.3% or greater (<a href=\"https:\/\/staging.communify.me\/gnof\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/nola-Poverty-rate1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">See map here<\/a>. Any census tract shaded in purple qualifies).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The team must have a minimum of 3 members and have representation of at least one Black, indigenous, or person of color (BIPOC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The team must complete the\u00a0<em>Water Wise Neighborhood Champions Training Courses<\/em>. These include a 1.5-hour<em>\u00a0Green Infrastructure 101 Workshop<\/em>, a 3-hour\u00a0<em>Green Infrastructure Tour of Sites in the City<\/em>, and the 2-hour<em>\u00a0Green Infrastructure Challenge Application Session<\/em>. (Total of 6.5 hours of training)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The team must demonstrate a commitment to the maintenance of their proposed projects.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Based on these criteria, seven teams will be selected to move forward with their projects. There will be one team selected from City Council Districts A, B, and D and two teams selected from City Council District C (West Bank and East Bank) and District E (Lower Ninth Ward and New Orleans East)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"null\">How to Apply<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Express interest\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/bEJbLQiSkJ7pAnZY8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">using this form<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Register for the\u00a0<em>Green Infrastructure 101 Workshop<\/em> on Thursday, January 7 at 5:30 pm. There is a virtual and in-person option. The in-person option limit is 10 people and will have to sign a COVID-19 release form.
