Less than three weeks ago, the Foundation activated its Disaster Response and Restoration Fund ahead of Hurricane Laura. Since that time, GNOF has awarded $335,000 in grants to local nonprofits providing relief to those who evacuated to our region.\u00a0The Greater New Orleans Foundation is particularly grateful to the family of Dick J. Guidry for their generous donation to support our efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Laura.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has already proven to be a very active hurricane season on top of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d said\u00a0Andy Kopplin, President & CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation<\/strong>. \u201cWe remain positioned to support of all of Southeast Louisiana in times of crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the Greater New Orleans Foundation Disaster Response and Restoration Fund, we mobilize and support a network of voluntary and community organizations active in disasters (VOADS and COADS) whose expertise is deployed locally, nationally, and internationally. We also honor the tradition of \u201cpaying it forward\u201d by coordinating with a network of community foundations when disaster strikes other communities to get immediate support to the most vulnerable citizens. Our Response and Restoration Fund provides immediate relief as well as long-term rebuilding support.<\/p>\n

With the capability to get dollars where they are most needed within 48 hours, the Foundation has pre-registered over 20 organizations from across Southeast Louisiana to receive expedited grants should they be active in responding to a disaster.<\/p>\n
